Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #10, CPS121, & Thinking Inking

First of all, I cannot believe that Michael Jackson just died. I grew up with everything Michael. He was my Mom's favorite, and I spent my childhood listening to Jackson 5 45s. I hope that the media lets him rest in peace.

~

This card has three challenges in it! Raspberry Suite, CPS 121 (for the first time), and the Thinking Inking two peas class!

Okay, so melon berry and berry sorbet are officially the most difficult colors to photograph! Grr! I promise you that these are the colors! The patterned paper is MAMBI and almost exactly the same color as melon berry. I was so excited!
I had to use my cutie pie Hero Arts butterfly again. Love it! I also used some chestnut Zing embossing powder for the woodgrain circle which was totally awesome. I seriously love that stuff! I also totally loved doing a sketch challenge. It was my first one, but it was really fun! I see more in my future!
I decided to do one of the techniques from Jennifer McGuire's Two Peas class. She did faux epoxy with UTEE. I don't have any UTEE, but many layers of clear embossing powder did the trick. I seriously love her class! Three videos a week along with PDFs!!! So incredible! Go check it out at two peas, if you haven't already!
[Supplies]
Paper: Papertrey Ink (dark chocolate, berry sorbet), random Michael's (cream), Me and My Big Ideas (fashion district)
Ink: Versamark, Papertrey Ink (berry sorbet), Stampin' Up (close to cocoa)
Stamps: Hero Arts (heart winged butterfly), A Muse (simple celebrations), Cornish Heritage Farms (wood grain backgrounder)
Etc: Papertrey Ink buttons (berry sorbet), American Crafts Zing embossing powder (chestnut), Ranger clear embossing powder, wire

Wedding in San Francisco

Here are some pictures from our recent trip up to San Francisco for a friend's wedding. It was such a beautiful wedding! Very classic San Francisco, including views of Alcatraz and the Golden Gate!
At Mike's parent's house before the wedding. I call this dress my "Doris Day" dress. It makes me want to sing "Que sera sera"!
Gorgeous church where the wedding was held.
View from the reception.

The foggy Golden Gate bridge. Gorgeous!

Hallelujah, I Just Love Her So

I'm sorry I haven't been posting. I love posting, so it makes me sad not to post! Work has been crazy! I also had to have a mole removed off my leg on Monday. Have any of you had that done before? It is totally creeping me out! I don't like the thought of an open wound on my leg. Eeek!

Anyways, I really hope to enter Kristina's challenge today, so hopefully there will be another post today! But, for now, I thought I would leave you with my favorite Ray Charles song. This is a great live recording from 1955. This is such a great song! I hope it brings a smile to your face. Here are my favorite lyrics from it:

Everybody asks me how I know
I smile at them and say, “She told me so”
That’s why I know, oh, I know
Hallelujah, I just love her so

Thank you so much for visiting and for all your lovely comments that make me smile everyday!

Have an amazing day,

tropical birthday

This weekend I am off to a friend from college's wedding. It should be really fun! I am excited about getting dressed up and going to a downtown San Francisco wedding. :)

I made this card for my Dad to give my Mom for her birthday. My Mom loves the beach, so I thought it was perfect!

This chipboard is so fun and glittery! I love it! I also got to use my new cloud background stamp by Hero Arts. I have some serious love for this stamp. I totally freaked when I first saw it. It was like they took it right out of my head! I have always wanted a stamp like this!
I made these waves with blue twinkle embossing powder. This kind is by Judy Kins, but I have to tell you that after using American Crafts Zing and the stuff they sell at Papertrey Ink, I just don't like this embossing powder much anymore. It's just not Zing-tastic :). I was pretty excited about how I made these waves. I actually made them with the stamp image below:
This is Kim Hughes's kissable tree! If you turn it on its side, it kind of looks like waves! Love!
I stamped a sentiment on a die cut Carolyn Gavin piece and had a gorgeous glittery beach scene! I was so glad my Dad asked me to make a card too! How cool is that? Well, there is no internet at Mike's parent's house (where we're staying) which gives me the heebie geebies, but I think I will survive. I am so behind on checking all your lovely blogs too. I will hopefully get back to seeing all your wonderful cards and commenting soon. There is just too much work, which makes me sad, because your blogs make me smile!

Lots of weekend happiness to you all!
[Supplies]
Paper: Neenah Paper Classic Crest (solar white), Michael's brand (light blue)
Ink: Versamark, Stampin' Up (soft sky), Papertrey Ink (true black)

Etc: Judy Kinds embossing powder (royal blue twinkle), Me and My Big Ideas Destination Paradise chipboard, K & Company Carolyn Gavin Greenhouse die cut

flowers and the bees

Here is another card from way back that I never shared. I had just bought this My Cute Stamps set, and I couldn't help but use it!
This card is all sorts of random!
I made this strip of faux patterned paper with the flower stamps and copic markers. I love how vibrant copics are! By the way, is it coh-pics or cah-pics? I hear it pronounced both ways. I personally like coh-pic :). That pink strip is left over from cutting a scalloped border. Save those strips; it's totally worth it!
I love this cutie pie bee! I popped him up on foam adhesive and made a little trail with a white gel pen (it's really hard to see in the photo.)
[Supplies]
Paper: Neenah Paper Classic Linen (classic natural white), Neenah Paper Classic Crest (solar white), Me and My Big Ideas
Ink: Stampin' Up (wasabi green), Adirondack (pitch black)
Stamps: My Cute Stamps (little forest friends)
Etc: Copics, Ranger white gel pen
Thank you so much for visiting!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #9

I am so glad I found time to do this challenge. How awesome are these colors?
Here is my card!
These flowers are from a Kristina digital cutting kit. I love them! I stamped them with text and houndstooth. I like the play of feminine and masculine with the patterns on the flowers.
The houndstooth on the new leaf card base has been clear embossed and the black card stock piece has been stamp with text style with black ink for a subtle effect.
You've gotta love buttons and ric rac! :)
The sentiment is stamped on a label one die from spellbinders, but I only let half of the shape show through.
[Supplies]
Paper: Papertrey Ink (new leaf), Michael's Brand (black and cream)
Ink: Versamark, Papertrey Ink (new leaf, true black)
Stamps: Papertrey Ink (faux ribbon, text style), Hero Arts (houndstooth)
Etc: random green ric rac ribbon, Ranger clear embossing powder, Papertrey Ink true black buttons, random green embroidery floss, Kristina Werner's Spring Flowers Designer Cuts, corner rounder, Quickutz Silhouette, Adobe Ilustrator, Spellbinders labels one dies, cuttlebug

VEGAS!

Thank you so much for all the well-wishes for Vegas. We had such a great time, and my brother's film Easier with Practice won the Grand Jury prize at the CineVegas Film Festival!!! How incredible is that? He is off to Edinburgh now for another festival. This one is even bigger, so I am excited for more people to see the film!

I thought I would share some photos from our trip!

The movie had top billing on the marquee!
My brother and I before the premiere.
Kyle on the red carpet! Thank goodness I am tall with long arms, I was able to take pictures above the press :).
Me and my hubby exploring Vegas.
The fountain show at the Bellagio is so beautiful! We watched it twice!
This art installation was at our hotel. It made me endlessly happy. There were lights that scrolled down to look like rain. It was seriously beautiful!
Look at those gorgeous umbrellas! So much inspiration in this photo! :)
Mike and I went to see the Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil show, and we loved it!! It was absolutely incredible. I love the Beatles so much, and they use original recordings that are remixed to fit the show. It is not a cover band or anything like that. That made it more amazing because no one can top the Fab Four! They also put Blackbird in the show which made me so happy. I will leave you with the lyrics to this amazing song:

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Black bird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
all your life
you were only waiting for this moment to be free

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise,
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Thank you so much for visiting!

Have an amazing day,

PS. I am hoping to finish work early so I can enter Dawn's color contest! :)

What man (or woman, for that matter) doesn't love a recliner?!

Hello everyone! Life is still at the insane level. I leave tomorrow morning for Vegas for my brother's film premiere. I am so excited! Keep your fingers crossed that someone sees this film and decides to distribute it! That would be so amazing!! It really does deserve to be in theatres all around the country!

I have actually never been to Vegas even though I have lived in SoCal for 11 years. I have super bad asthma and have never gone because of all the smoking. Well, Mike and I found a hotel that has an entire non smoking floor and a non smoking part of the casino. I am definitely not a gambler, but I want to be able to walk around and people watch! We are also going to go see the Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil show as an anniversary gift from my Mom! A lot of family and friends will be there to support my brother too, so it should be quite the reunion! I will let you guys know all about it when I get back! :) Any Vegas "must do" tips out there in blogland? :)

Back to the cards, here is another Father's Day card. I was thinking that a lot of Father's Day cards have camping or golf or tools, etc. Well, what about the Dad that doesn't like any of those things? So I came up with this card!
Recliners! I've never met a man that doesn't love a good recliner! :) I recently figured out that the Fresh Alphabet from PTI fits in a 3/4 inch punch. I think the letter look so cute that way!
I created this plaid recliner by stamping the recliner and then creating lines across it and up and down with copic markers. I didn't worry about going outside the lines because I knew I could cut it out. I am excited about trying this technique with other patterns! It could be really fun!
I used woodgrain and that Color Bok paper because it seems manly. jaja! I also used my beloved pop dots/dimensionals/foam adhesive on the recliners. Note to self: Seriously, buy some stock in glue dots and pop dots :).
[Supplies]
Paper: Neenah Paper Environment (desert storm), Neenah Paper Classic Crest (solar white), Color Bok (forest friendly scrap pack)
Ink: Stampin' Up (close to cocoa), Ranger Adirondack (espresso), Papertrey Ink (ripe avocado)
Stamps: A Muse (recliner), Cornish Heritage Farms (woodgrain backgrounder), Papertrey Ink (fresh alphabet)
Etc: 3/4 inch circle punch, Copics (YG95,B95)

so so excited!!

I was a May gallery challenge winner for the PaperCrafts Connection blog. I cannot believe it! I am just so excited!
I was chosen for this card that I made for my Mom, and here is the entry on their blog.

Thank you so much to Dana for letting me know (check out her blog, she was the most wonderful cards!) It has seriously made my week. And thank you to you all for indulging me. :)

another family birthday!

Hello!! Life has been INSANE! I have no idea how to keep up, but I sure am trying. I leave on Friday for Vegas for my brother's film festival so that is putting pressure on me to get all of these things done. My Mom's birthday is actually the day after we all leave Vegas, so we will celebrate there! My Mom absolutely loves shoes. She even puts them all in labeled tupperware bins. She has the most amazing shoes too! I am glad we are the same size (even though I trump her 7 inches in height!) so we can wear the same shoes! :)

Here is her card!
I have decided that raspberry fizz, black, ripe avocado and white is my new favorite color combo. I am seriously loving it! I created the background by putting all these different shoe stamps on one block as if it were a background stamp and stamped it in versamark. I used American Crafts Zing! embossing powder for the first time, and, wow! Zing! Kablam! Pow! This stuff is awesome! I punched the bottom with one of those border punches that I just love and covered the seem with ribbon.
I stamped my favorite shoe of the bunch on a nestie square and copic colored it and added some spica glitter pen on the flower. I used my new favorite birthday sentiment from bird watching and lined the edges of the square with a copic, trying to emulate the sketch style of the shoes.

I think my Mom is going to love this card. She has been begging me to get some shoe stamps for a while. When I found this awesome set by Hero Arts, I knew I had to get it for her! Alright, time to unwind with some rock band at a friend's house, because, seriously, I need some unwinding!
[Supplies]
Paper: Papertrey Ink (raspberry fizz, ripe avocado)
Ink: Versamark, Ranger Adirondack (pitch black), Papertrey Ink (raspberry fizz)
Stamps: Hero Arts (clear design high heels), Papertrey Ink (bird watching)
Etc: American Crafts Zing! embossing powder (black opaque), Spellbinders Nestabilities (square), Cuttlebug, Wizard, Copic (100, C1, YG95, RV17), EK Success slim line border punch (carolyn gavin), random black ribbon, spica glitter pen
Thank you so much for visiting!

Have an amazing day,
kelly marie

PS. It is so hard to photograph pinks and reds. Anyone have any tips out there? This card is definitely more vibrant in real life!

Raspberry Suite Color Challenge #8

I love these color challenges! This time I am getting it in just in time ... so this will be a quickie post! Here are the colors:
Here is my take on it:
Clear embossed polka dots on kraft with dark chocolate scalloped border. I love clear embossing on kraft!
The flower is the 3 nested flower shabeabilities dies. So cute! The pipe cleaner was cream colored, and I colored it with my copic marker to make is raspberry fizzy, I left some cream showing through to match the leaves and the brown wire shows through to match the brown elements! Pipe cleaner is fun!
I cut the leaves free hand from vanilla card stock and stamped one half on the greeting on each leaf! Tip for this: fold your paper in half and then cut half the leaf, then you will have a perfect match when you unfold it. It is the only way I can cut leaves!
[Supplies]
Paper: Neenah Paper Classic Linen (classic natural white), Neenah Paper Environment (desert storm), Papertrey Ink (raspberry fizz), Michael's brand (chocolate brown)
Ink: Versamark, Stampin' Up (close to cocoa)
Stamps: Papertrey Ink (faux ribbon, polka dot basics)
Etc: Ranger clear embossing powder, Papertrey Ink dark chocolate button, pipe cleaner, Copic (RV17), Spellbinders shapeabilities (nested flower)
